Materials + Getting Inspired!
Welcome to the Enchanted Blooms stitchalong!
If you joined the Mythic Creatures stitchalong already, you should already have all of the materials you really need. Otherwise, you can download my materials guide at the bottom of this page.
I have few hard and fast rules for my stitchalongs as I don’t believe in stifling anyones creative process, however I do recommend you use a dark color fabric - this allows the colors to really pop off and become nearly electric, giving them an extra dose of magic.
For example, take the image above - while I love the way it looks on white, let's take a look at this same image on a black background…
It really GLOWS, huh??
Again, feel free to do whatever floats your boat (ruffles your petals? unfurls your blossoms?) this is YOUR artwork!
As you go through your day, spend a little extra time with any flowers you find yourself face to face with.
Pay attention to how they’re composed, what defines their different stages of growth, how their colors shift and change, and even how they make you feel as you study them.
For the stitchalong, we’ll be designing a bouquet of blooms of your choice.
While I’ll be providing suggestions on how to illustrate these blooms using stitches, it’s up to you what flowers you’ll be including, so spending some time experiencing them in person is the best way to get prepared.
(Check out my free embroidery stitch videos to brush up on your stitches in the meantime!)
Let’s get blooming!
Part of the magic of these stitchalongs is the slow unfolding of visuals without a hard plan, but I will let you know that we will be working with three “styles” of flowers so keep that in mind.
You can illustrate one flower in three ways, or jam in a dozen (or more) botanicals into your work of art - this is YOUR process, I’m just here to help guide you.
